Where the original series and the second season where more story-driven, this one has the story take a backseat to the humor, which is actually a good thing. And that is precisely why I prefer this spin-off series to FMP itself. The original series never really had that much character development anyways and was more plot-driven.

This one is more than just about mechs battling each other, and, for that very reason, it's got that right personality to it.

If you are just like me and did not find the original series blend of humor and drama to be in the slightest bit impressive, maybe you can still find a place for Fumoffu! because it doesn't sacrifice too much. It's all humor, and this works to its own favor.

Knowing the plot and/or characters from the original series before watching this spinoff series might not be a bad idea, but it is not that necessary. After all, this is more about what funny acts occur between everyone and nothing more.
