The story of Haridama takes place in an universe where magical forces called Yin and Yang exists. The Yin and Yang forces are everywhere and in everyone, and people who can manipulate those forces are the ones called sorcerers.
Usually there will be an equal flow of Yin and Yang inside the people. But sometimes, they are born with just one of the forces and not both. That are the Obsidians.
The concept of Yin and Yang is borrowed from Eastern philosophy, and this is what gives this story a twist from other stories involving magic.
The Obsidians Harika and Kokuyo are sorcerer apprentices in the Cram School, where they learn what it means to be different from everyone else. Since they miss the power that everyone else have, they are looked down upon, and have to work extra hard because of this.
And then, one day, they discover what it means to have the power of an Obsidian...
Story 8/10:
When you first read Haridama, it'is possible that you think it is a bit superficial. But it will get deeper, and you are shown the thoughts, feelings and memories of the characters.
There are many special moments in the story. Hard to discover at first sight, but definetly there.
Art 8/10:
I personally love this style of drawing, and it's very easy to see what's going on. It is also very clean.
It would have paid off to work more on a coupe of the lines and backgrounds.
Character 8/10:
Each of the characters are different from each other, and all have a special feature.
Kokuyo has very many expressions and actions he pulls of during the story, and Harika is the type of girl to suddenly surprise you and do something unexpected.
The other characters in Haridama are supporting the character and story development.
Enjoyment 8/10:
This story was of the type that makes me relaxed and in a good mood when I read it. Even if it the storyline is original and it is easy to predict the outcome, I enjoyed it to the fullest.
Overall 8/10:
The Haridama manga has many good sides to it, and there is just something with this story that is catchy. Because it is a one-volume manga, it cannot be too detailed. Still it is one of the better I've read.
I recommend Haridama for those who like supernatural and comedy manga, with a small touch of romance and drama.
