What makes for a good start does not necessarily end well.
This series is a shining example to that phrase.
As it has probably been said hundredfold or more, the main protagonist can (and will) be perceived as bothersome, weepy, liitle punk and could spoil a great deal of initial anime's eps.
Wish I could say it was only a front...
Putting that aside though, the second (how symbolic here) main character makes up for it with more than intrest.
The series starts in a very simillar manner to the one in Death Note, and by my assesment can be put very close to it. The question is, if on an equal footing as well?
Well, that depends on the viewer optics on certain plot moves really.
Its got its moments, and final episodes skyrockets the tempo, but...
Let the 'but' be a mystery here, up for an individual evaluation.

Post scriptum
Few twists seems a little far-fetched, to say the least.
But in the end the sum makes for more than a decent story.

PS2.
Oh. Would have almost forgotten!
Gasai Yuno in a black lingerie with katana should even all the drawbacks.
Go for it! Haha
