Eureka Seven was a show I had overlooked in the beginning of my anime watching career due to my lack of interest in mechas. However, a revisit to one of my favorite songs, Days by Flow, brought me to the opening of Eureka Seven. Right off the bat, the music of Eureka Seven captivated me. By episode 3, I had the entire OST and OP/ED's downloaded (I recommend everyone to do this so you won't be frustrated later in the series when you come across an AWESOME song but don't know the name. I used a combination of there 3 sites to get all the songs in the show: http://animeost.info/13999/eureka-seven-ost-koukyoushihen-eureka-seven-ost, http://hikarinoakariost.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/eureka-seven.html, http://downloads.khinsider.com/game-soundtracks/browse/E. Be sure to have 7-zip installed also for .rar files). Another strong point of this show was the art and animation. As with most mechas, battles were detailed full of explosions and gunfire (and rainbows and sparkly green exhaust). But what really made an impact on me was the detail put in Eureka's appearance throughout the series (don't worry, the hair will change).

Content-wise, the first few episodes succeeded in hooking me with a mixture of fast-paced action and interesting characters. One part of the story that was fairly strong was the use of mechas. While in other shows such as Code Geass where mechas seemed to be a side note or bonus, Eureka Seven had them right in the spotlight while not overusing or compensating for a bad plot with them. The story was evolved throughout the show which was something that I enjoyed. By not having much of a final goal for the protagonist in the start, the show was able to encompass many themes while not detracting from the actual story. While the story was stellar and was one of the main reasons myself and others stuck with the show, the introduction of some themes mid-series and their subsequent abandonment was a disappointment. But, it should be noted that the length of Eureka Seven both was a blessing and a curse because its long run time allowed for diverse themes and character development but caused it to feel a little long.

Moving on to characters, I never had any problems with characters early in the series because interactions between characters could be understood easily in regards to the attitudes of them. However, there were a few moments where interactions between Eureka and Renton were hard to believe because of their seemingly lack of attraction at some times. Character development was strong in this series, but I felt the backgrounds of characters could have been explained in more detail given how long the show lasted.

Eureka Seven was a highly enjoyable show with a high rewatch value. It's high episode count may turn away some, but it gives those who have watched it a feeling of satisfaction after being finished. One thing this show has over all others is that fact that I can be hit with nostalgia just from listening to the soundtrack. And looking back after finishing the series, you can really appreciate how entertaining the show was from start to finish. Plus, there's a second season. If you are hesitating on whether you want to watch the series or not, just do yourself a favor and begin because you aren't going to find a better all-around show than this. Happy ref-ing!
