Natsume a young boy has inherited the book of friends from his grandmother. His grandmother was supposedly a strong fighter that would beat any yoki and take their name. All of these yoki are either after the book of friends or want their name book which Natsume happily gives back to them. Natsume has had a rough life. He is able to see spirits and yoki, because of this everyone treats him different. After his parents death at an early age he has lived and moved from family to family due to them not being able to care for him. Natsume meets Madara which says he's after the book of friends but is almost like a guardian of sorts for Natsume. This story follows Natsume and his quest to figure out who he is and what he believes in.

The story is wholesome, beautiful, and yet sad. Natsume has an extremely hard time making friends and keeping them. I can't imagine being in this situation and having to speak to spirits and yoki while still trying to maintain to the human side that you are a sane individual.

Why I love this story: I enjoyed this anime because even though at times it was slow paced there was always some meaning to every part of what is going on or will happen. The story continues on into more seasons and plays out very nicely. I loved the characters and enjoyed how they all played some role in Natsume's life or his quest to find himself and why he has the book of friends.
