Ben-To (Anime) add (All reviews)
May 6, 2012
Ben-to is a parody of everything anime, it has ecchi characters, ridiculous plots, a perverted main character, bad puns, a yuri girl etc

The plot is developed to make the various parodies work. Sato shopping for his dinner approaches the Ben-to stand at his local supermarket only to find himself seconds later on the floor unconscious. When he comes to he is warned to stay away by a mysterious girl. On his first day at his private high school he meets the mysterious girl (Sen) and joins the the half priced food club and introduced to the world and culture of Ben-to brawls which a fights for half priced Ben-to in supermarkets. Beginning as a dog (beginner) Sato soon progresses to be a wolf (expert) and begins to win his half priced ben-to and gets his own nom de guerre, Freak or Hentai in Japanese.

Sato gets beat up a lot and not just in the Ben-to brawls he is often the victim of Ume the jealous yuri student council president, Ume who is in love with his friend Hana.

As a parody it struggles to escape the bizarre and is amusing rather than outright funny. However, it is a good watch but there are funnier anime.

I am proud to announce that thanks to Ben-to I managed to get my first Japanese pun. Sato's nom de guerre is The Freak or Hentai in Japanese, however, Hentai can also be translated as pervert which Sato often shows himself to be. So hooray for me :o)
