It was truly cinema. Chainsaw man is a story that is very suitable for theatrical release. It felt like watching a Tarantino film but as an anime.
I watched in IMAX in tokyo last month, and 4DX + 3D in america recently.
The 3D experience is not that special, as there is not much special 3D effects. But 4DX was really fun. The Reze 'bathwater' was great immersion. There is a lot of rain and mist throughout the movie and the sound quality is great. It was like you were there seeing Reze butt naked teaching you to swim. The action scenes pack a huge punch and toss you around much more than the Demon Slayer 4DX experience which i did not expect. It was very explosive, and this 4DX experience is something people probably aren't going to get to see again in theaters, but it was very memorable.
The animation has a very noticeable upgrade from the TV series. No jarring CGI scenes. There is some CGI but it is not very 'jarring'. They cover it up well in the movie. The action scenes are very impressive, and i did not expect so much skilled animation in this movie
The direction and pacing is excellent. It does not feel rushed at all. if anything, the 5 second scenes of Angel and Kobeni in pink lingerie were the only rushed parts.
Seeing the manga come to life, all the 'shocks', humor, the action packed sequences, and tragedy - it was fantastic. I really don't have any criticism for the movie when I was going in expecting to be disappointed.
The SFX and the soundtrack were also so memorable. It is one of those movies will stick with viewers for a long time.
