The art work has been OK but hardly inspired. Pretty much cookie cutter from many recent animes. No originality to be found here. The animation was never much to impress, but I give them credit. It hasn't tailed off as badly as I suspected it would.
The character designs are typical high school comedy cliche. The addition of more and more characters to the household only seemed to make matters worse. Smooshing all these characters together seems highly contrived at this point. Maybe we could shoehorn a couple more characters into Morihito's place, and call it a occult hippie commune?
It thinned out what was already a thin premise. Everyone gets shortchanged by the writers. In particular is Temu, who seemed like she was going to be a central character. She could have been developed into someone truly interesting. But she kinda pops in and out at irregular times, and in the long run is little more than a poor running gag for the writers to fall back on.
Plot? There is no steenking plot! Which might not have been so bad, if the writers had focused on Nico and Morihito, like they did early in the first cour. But the writers stuck to a formula that becomes very tiresome after a while. Someone has a problem. Nico has a spell. Spell backfires. Supposed hilarity ensues as the cast tries to fix her fuck up. Everything comes up roses. Rinse and repeat. Sometimes as many as 3 time in a single episode.
The voice acting is not bad, but as time rolls on it becomes more 'meh.' The delivery sounds way off now, compared to the first cour.The VAs seem to have lost interest. As most of the side character performances are quite dull, there is little to recommend the directing.
Sadly this title seems to continue to disappoint. It started off well and I'd have given the first cour a solid B. But the writing and direction have slid so badly in the second cour, I've almost dropped this twice now. As it sits currently, I couldn't grade it any higher than a 68/100 for a D+. I'll finish off the season, but only to see if the producers can keep this from falling into failing territory.
