Platinum End, from Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata — the same duo behind the overrated Death Note — is a textbook example of wasted potential. Great premise, terrible execution. With each episode, it got worse until it reached the most stupid and awful ending I’ve ever seen — and I’m not even calling it the worst ending ever only because the show had already proven itself to be garbage throughout; that grotesque ending was almost fitting. The characters are completely devoid of charisma, and the final third is stuffed with empty, pretentious philosophy. The script tosses out ideas it never bothers to explore. If I could, I’d rate it -1.
