A truly unique story in its own way.
Filled with incredibly charming characters, each with their own well-written and humorous development. For anyone who enjoys a good story with clever twists, delivered in a dynamic and comedic way, Mairimashita is a no-brainer recommendation.
What stands out the most is how well it develops its huge cast of characters. It’s genuinely surprising, considering how many relevant characters are introduced over time. Yet each of them has their own quirks, making the world feel vast and richly detailed. And of course, there’s the development of the main character, Iruma, whose ambitions deepen as he gradually transforms from a timid boy with a traumatic childhood into someone more confident and self-assured.
Not to mention the comedic aspects of the story, which are cleverly placed at the right moments without undermining the seriousness of its richer narrative. The romantic elements are also handled thoughtfully, especially considering the characters are teenagers. It’s presented in a light-hearted way without excessive fanservice, particularly when it comes to Iruma, who remains adorably innocent throughout the story.
Of course, I wouldn’t call it a perfect work. At times, the story can feel a bit forced, and a few chapters could have been better used to push the plot or character arcs forward.
But all in all, it’s undoubtedly one of my favorite series.
