Now Evangelion has been on my radar for years, I've previously stayed away from it because I'm not too much of a mecha guy (It just isn't my cup of tea)
My relationship with this series is complicated because I both understand the hype behind it and don't at the same time, Like the animation is great especially for a show that came out in 1995-1996 the detail on stuff like the beer cans and just the little things like that look better than 70% of the stuff you'll see today, But character and story wise is where I have an issue with this series
I genuinely believe that Asuka was the only interesting character here with Misato Katsuragi probably being the second, I'm honestly not even gonna talk about the story because honestly it doesn't even get interesting until Asuka debuts and everything else is just Shinji being depressed or bipolar throughout the entire series
My rating for this is a 7/10 which is still good but nowhere near where I've seen people place it, I'm pretty sure it's only nostalgia unless you enjoy very existential storytelling where (Ending Spoiler warning down below)
The last few episodes are just therapy sessions for the characters, Which is different I guess but isn't something I find really that engaging premise wise but that could just be me
