The anime Director takes LOADS of creative license in these first episodes. The story at this point is man vs self, but they don’t seem to get that. So, they make Soldart an antagonist, which is stupid because he’s to only person really rutting for Rudy at this point in the story. He’s the bro trying to get you outa the funk, but again the Director doesn’t get it. So, Soldart bad.
The English dub just makes things worse by confusing and ruining the tone constantly. Young Rudy and old Rudy never match up in tone or intention. Young Rudy appears to have done their homework and knows they should sound completely dejected as Quagmire. Old Rudy is just reading the script, no voice acting appears to be involved as there is absolutely no change from any other season to how it’s being performed now. English dub VA Director completely crapped the bed on this one. It’s bad enough they should have a redo for the dvd. They aren’t that smart and I doubt they care though, so the trash bits will live on.
The Season actually starts on episode 4. Just ignore the others and start there.
