Where my anime experience began back in the '60s as a kid. Back then, local TV stations could pick this up real cheap, and it usually filled a slot between 3:00pm and 5:00pm every day. Even as an elementary school kid, I knew there was something so different and kind of special about it. I didn't know anything about Japan. All I knew was, Kimba is a lot cooler than most of the other kiddy cartoons at the time.
Looking back I can feel a lot of nostalgia, but in reality I could hardly recommend it to a modern audience. The artwork is so simple as to be less than mid. The animation today looks pretty brutal. The characters would seem cookie cutter, as they have been copied literally thousands of times as tropes over the year. The English dubs for their day were good, but have been far surpassed in the last 50 years.
If I had to grade Kimba today, it's about a D at 65%. But it is not without its redeeming factors, and it definitely is a 'must see' for those interested in the evolution of anime as an artform.
