The setup doesn't seem like anything special at first; a love story about two gamers, how many shows have we seen like that already? But what makes this show so special is that it feels so grounded in reality. There are no stupid anime character archetypes and tropes that define how a character will be. All of the characters feel like they could exist as real people in the real world. It makes it very easy to connect with them. How they act and the things they think about are very in line with how people are nowadays. I know this because I myself find many of the characters relatable. It's such a breath of fresh air compared to many other anime out there.
The icing on the cake for me is that, yes I find this show relatable, but I find it relatable in the most literal sense. Yamada and Akane's relationship mirrors my relationship with my girlfriend a lot. So much so that it is uncanny. If you told me that this show was based off of our story, I would believe you. I almost immediately fell in love with Akane because she reminds me so much of my girlfriend. She looks like her, she acts like her, she literally even has the same clothes as her! As for Yamada, now he isn't AS close to me as Akane is for my girlfriend, but he's still very much like me in a lot of ways. He's relatable enough for me to see him as sort of a self-insert character when he really wasn't supposed to be. With all that said, these are all just my personal reasons for loving the show.
