I've watched many anime, but Frieren has touched me so deeply, that is my favorite anime of all time.
What I like most about the series, is the distorted perception of time. It's philosophically very deep and it gives you another perspective about life, how it passes, and how to enjoy that passing time.
Although, it is not action packed, the fights were just top notch. The animation is another level and most importantly the characters are actually strategizing and calculating how to fight. Not just arbitrary fights, that have to follow a specific plot.
Besides that, the episodic nature of the first part of the anime, conveys beautifully a realistic feeling of life and heartwarming encounters. The casual comedy makes it a fully relaxing watching experience.
I could keep going and elaborate further and write a book about it, but will leave it at that.
