Metallic Rouge is so…last century.

Ep.1 threw out a bunch of settings while being strategically obscure. Well, if you happened to have watched a decent amount of sci-fi (or maybe just Blade Runner), the purpose would seem too explicit. Do these keywords sound familiar? Android, Asimov’s laws of robotics, similarity to human, self-awareness, freedom, government’s agent, secret organization trying to overthrow…Now try NOT to think of any fictions reading these keywords…

And wait, what about the characters? Dual female protagonist who are opposite to each other in all dimensions (super chatty vs super quiet, curly hair vs straight hair, dark skin vs light skin...). The design of this combo felt so “classical”, which was fine; but the biggest problem was that their interactions were not interesting at all.

The worst part is yet to come. The anime lost me entirely halfway; it began to expand the main plot, add more characters, and attempt to deepen the theme. Unfortunately, most of content felt shallow, and failed to pique users' interest. I could not resonate with any of the charaters - like, technically I "understand" their motivations, but I could not feel for them.

Is this that BONES? The studio that created Rahxephon, Eureka Seven, Space Dandy? That was a surprisingly disappointing original anime.
