This is a book about many dark themes of suicide, but also how trauma can be overcome.
Yuuki is a student who sees a girl who is attempting to take her own life. She almost dies but is saved by her and they get closer as he uncovers her past. Fantasy ultimately is the lubricant of desire, that is, it allows certain hang-ups to be surpassed to allow the enjoyment a desire in a guilt free manner. Power fantasies allow an overcoming of dispossession, the conceit of this book then is to allow the overcoming of a desire of feeling unwanted. A girl who has no choice but to date you, who dates you for no particular exceptional feature that you possess.
I think this premise is rather tasteless, to exploit suicide so freely as a narrative tool robs suicide of its much needed seriousness as an issue. It is also a generic book, the characters are not hewn from passion but are simple remixed templates: the annoying side kick or the diligent protagonist are well worn and boring,
I do not recommend.
