Okay, I gotta say this before it slips from me, and sorry in advance because this will sound like an "um, actually" moment, but I can't help but geek out: I love the whole premise of the shadow dissociating from the self. very Jungian and factually close to the psychological processing of intense trauma. and the ghost not being able to move on (as far as I understand up until this point) because it cannot accept "all the ugly feelings" (in Jungian psychology, attaining self-actualization cannot happen unless the self integrates with the shadow, and confronting your shadow is the first of many confrontations and the hardest to achieve), and cannot remember the most traumatic event of her life (her murder, because people with trauma tend to have memory lapses and become forgetful) are such genius plot points relative to psychological concepts. It's nice that an anime like this can portray such an experience with close accuracy.
