The concept of arrange marriages is something that I can never find compelling in storytelling, but My Happy Marriage breaks the mold for me. The main leads of this series, Miyo and Kiyoka, have a very compelling dynamic that is built upon beautifully throughout this season and all of the intense drama they face as a couple further strengthen their relationship. The only drawbacks that I have with this season are the side characters and the supernatural aspects of the story. The side characters at times can be very comical but they do serve their purpose well in the story, like how the Saimori family are just one-dimensionally evil. The supernatural aspect also is very shallow and at times the show just doesn't really know whether to build upon this part of the story or not. Regardless, the grounded parts of this show really cary this anime forward and I'm interested where the story goes in Season 2.
