If Televisa made an anime.
If romance is not your jam, then don't even bother. If you do like romance (even if it's trashy and fanservice-y, like me) then well, it depends on your mushy, telenovela-like, evil stepmother-slapping tolerance. In my case, I basically continued watching for Kudo (male MC) and in my hopes the female MC, Miyo, to start changing her actual MADDENING victim mentality. Like, we get it, you have trauma... but this is just too much. Just to clarify, I may come off as if I didn't like the series, but what I did like is the plot, which I won't spoil, but the introduction of other elements apart from the blooming romance was definitely a welcome addition. On top of that, I really appreciate when romance series focus more on individual character growth rather than simply the main couple kissing after the fireworks show.
Around ep. 8 I just gave up and decided to approach this series as a telenovela. Just watch it for the random most dramatic things that could happen and melt at the romantic moments. I wouldn't recommend it outright but if you start watching it then I wouldn't stop you. Nevertheless, I will be watching the next season (at least the first episodes) hoping that Miyo continues to evolve and mature. Still, I just feel the potential this series has but her actual behaviour is almost painful to watch on screen. Kudo though... he's so great. Just a typical shoujo man making fangirls fall for him (myself included).
So, a 6, even a 7... Not bad, can see it getting better. Definitely above average but not an "I really liked it!" type of show.
Beautiful art + opening and ending. I'm also a sucker for anime set in this time period.
