Preliminary (7/13 eps)
Violence, nudity, and a vaguely cat girl. Sounds good, definitely wasn't. Honestly. it was sort of a sad excuse to throw the three together, basically it takes things you'd normally like and just throws 'em all together in a big stupid jumble knowing that people will think it's good. It's rather painful how obvious it is that the story was made just so these three things could come together, so to say, it's not great. Sadly though, it's probably the best part. Violence is explainable, she's a destructive force and she kills stuff. The nudity however, (which isn't a problem in itself, but the method in which they went about it is,) was just thrown in completely pointlessly. Throughout the entirety of this anime it feels like the absolute only reason Nyuu has "horns" and loses her memory is so that the writer could have a naked cat girl running around pointlessly for about half the series, not even humourously. The animation wasn't terrible for the time period, but the voice acting is "meh" at its best in Japanese and rather atrocious in English. Basically on the same level as English hentai voice acting if you've heard it. The small bits of "humor" they occasionally try to interject while Nyuu is running around are nothing original, or rather, exactly what you'd expect in that sort of situation. Imagine generic anime humor, and there ya go. That's exactly what it's like. Finally, the last thing that sorta insulted my sensibilities was the Latin intro. -3- Latin is badass, this anime is not. Elfen Lied does not deserve the Latin intro it uses. So.. Yeah, if you like painful excuses for plot, originality, and nudity and violence you'll like this a lot. Ooh, I'll put it this way, Elfen Lief is basically the Transformers movies of anime. The only part of this anime I truly enjoyed is that the fact that I only had to sit through 13 episodes.
