Every character is still the same as in the original anime but they're older and it does show. Everyone has sort of managed to pursue the interest that they promised to pursue at the end of 'Brave Command Dagwon', Yoku's working in genetic experiments in his apartment, Geki has found a job at an alcohol shop, Kai's training the new generation of Disciplinary Committee members, Ryu's working multiple part time jobs, Shin finally gets into a relationship with Erika, and En's just loafing at home. These are still the Dagwon team that we know and love. The redesigned Dagtector suits are a nice addition to the OVA, They give of a sense of awesomeness and sleekness that builds on what the original Dagtectors had. This is similar to what they did with Gaogaigar: FINAL (many ideas from Dagwon are present in both Gaogaigar and FINAL) with Volfogg and King J-Der's combinations, and is a nice touch.
The new character, Kenta, doesn't get much character development and is used to forward the plot. Although some may view this as a downside to this OVA, it is quite short and there must be something to move the plot forward. Serving as a clone of En from 8 years prior, his lack of awareness for the world makes him seem helpless and is what draws the Dagwon team to him.
These elements combined make for a sad but satisfying ending where the Earth is saved from destruction. Overall, 'The Boy with Crystal Eyes' is a wonderful ending to 'Brave Command Dagwon', but is unnecessary when doing a watchthrough of the Yuusha series as it does not provide much to the story of Dagwon.
