So i recently went to watch suzume in a theatre in my city solely for the reason that i had watched shinkai's previous two films (your name and weathering with you)and i have to say this that this movie was absolutely horrible and keep in mind that i am speaking this from a perspective of a neutral audiences who doesn't know too much about all the disasters occuring in japan which i heard from few viewers are referenced from time to time in the movie.


My first gripe with the movie will definitely be repetitiveness!So suzume and satou has to lock doors and throughout the first hour of the film they lock 4 doors nearly.So when they locked the first door i really felt thrill and tension but after every 25 minutes they go and lock a door and so it definitely felt repetitive.Also i noticed that a joke was repeated about 3-4 times and that is people noticing that the cat can speak.i understand that any sane people will get surprised after hearing a cat speak but did we really need 4 -5 characters reacting in the same loud ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!! everytime??idk so


Characters: in weathering with you i really enjoyed the dynamics of hina hodaka and nagi as they search for jobs
But for this one i have to say on the onset suzume and satou relationship felt so unnatural and forced tbh i didn't enjoy it as much also the chair gag attempted comedy that failed after the first 2 minutes itself

This is probably the worst movie i have seen that was hyped so much and in my theatre i felt the pulse of the audience and noticed that many of them were not enjoying the movie at all. I also think i will now avoid shinkai's next works
because ya this one was really bad and waste of time for me
