If you know me in person, you pretty much know how I dislike Hideo Nakata as a whole, specially for his work being overastimated, not only on 1998's "Ringu", but pretty much all his other movies I've seen so far.
With that being said, it's also so ironic how my favorite horror entrie in the franchise it's a movie directed by him, 1999's "Ringu 2".
I have some regards for little things on the movie, but them being put aside easily, it's a really enjoyable movie, with decent horror elements, and an engaging story.
Still, with those problems, for no reason, the mangas' reading, for this movie in particular, it's just spetacullar.
The other two readings I've seen so far (Ringu vol.1 and Rasen) are pretty much what you could expect, but the second movie reading has almost NOTHING to do with the other two, the art style is completly different, so gorgeous to be honest. Every detail of how the characters look, the scenarios, and the perspectives of the shots are well set.
I like how it sumirizes the first movie's plot on the first pages, when I showed my friends the second movie I had this issue to explain the context for many things (despite that, they all liked it), while here you're spared from that.
This is something interesting also, the story is really 1 to 1 with movie's, unlike "Ringu vol.1", with the different characters designs and book's plot and evrything, all here follows just the movies, including the caracters' designs, so this isn't really a sequel to the vol.1, this is its own thing.
I like how it follows pretty much the movie's plot, but in addition there are a bunch of moments that they show horrors moments that weren't in the original material, such as the end of the movie, when they made the final scene look even more scarier.
For being a manga, much of the problems of ankwardness or slow ritm of the movie aren't really a thing here.
Is weird how a manga based on a movie came to be this good. There are pretty much nothing bad to say about it.
