Baki-dou can be seen as something of an epilogue to the events preceding Hanma Baki, which more or less concludes the story of Baki and many other characters in a dramatically satisfying way. As a result, Baki-dou is left with answering the question of "what now?" And the answer is a perhaps expected level of absurdity involving light science fiction elements to bring fourth even more stronger opponents for the main cast to face-off against. The power creep is very apparent and this would seem like a 'jump the shark' moment for the series, but that would be discounting the many other points where Baki has reached into the absurd - although this time it is more pronounced.
By no means is this manga bad. I don't think it is absolutely necessary reading for a Baki fan, but those who do will most certainly have a fun time. You get to see old fan favorites interact with some legitimately sad send-offs and triumphant battles. I will say, this iteration of Baki is by far the most bloody and gore-y as weapons become a prominent piece in many of the fights taking place. I would recommend this to any fan of combat sports manga and Baki fans wanting more of the same.
