the ending is apparently controversial, but i thought that (without spoiling anything) it couldn't have finished any other way. the final episode is really a reflection on how you the viewer are *supposed* to watch the big o. it's no secret that a lot of "mystery" television relies more on speculation and implication than enclosed, tightly structured plots with definitive answers. the ending of this tries to explain, i think successfully, why we find them compelling anyway.
