I tend to like weird-ass anime that flies under the radar and goes mostly unnoticed by the mainstream, and the trailer for Aragne certainly made it look like it would scratch that itch, but I was quickly proven wrong. While the atmosphere, score and creature design can be striking, everything else is bottom of the barrel quality. Really bad animation and bland character design, which is punctuated by awful directing that utilizes this jerky camera technique that is distracting as hell is bad enough, but the story is what really kills it. Clearly this was written by someone that either thinks they're way smarter and more clever than they actually are, or they just didn't have the resources to bring their vision to life in the way they intended, because this is a hot, incomprehensible mess. Avoid this at all costs.
