Ranking of Kings is the type of anime that just lingers around to your mind just enough for it to pop to the front now and then, making you think about the many themes and aspects it introduced to the viewers. The show is thought provoking, gives a real sense of adventure and most characters end up having more depth then you'd initially think when they're introduced.

Not to mention it has an amazing step MILF that stole the show multiple times. No seriously she's awesome.

There's a theme of hope and forgiveness throughout the 23 episodes and while the second half of the anime has a few points which causes controversial opinions from some viewers, I personally believe the direction of the story was clear cut from start to finish. That said, I do understand their points of view and concerns especially about one thing that happens at the end. And while I felt very satisfied after finishing the show, I think a season 2 could add a lot to the story especially for certain characters that just needed a bit more time to have their journeys and outcomes explained.

The art style gives the whole thing a sort of European fairy tale feel, which may be jarring at first but the actual animation is great, especially considering Wit Studio (Attack on Titan/ Spy x Family / Steins;Gate / Ancient Magus Bride 's studio) animated this. The pacing in which the story told is done insanely well, which I appreciated a lot since nowadays a lot of anime feel like they just rush through things or just move from scene to scene constantly.

I would certainly start to touch upon story spoilers if I said anymore so I'll leave it at this:

I think Ranking of Kings is a wonderful fantasy show with a daring choice of a main character. What sold me on the anime though were the side characters which I all found increasingly more interesting as time went on. There's some dark moments and themes as well, so don't let the art style fool you, violence, gory combat happen multiple times in the story. I recommend anyone which enjoys fantasy stories and intriguing characters to check this anime out. It's something special and the second OP is one of my favourites!
