Let's say you watched a few episodes, and you are not sure if it's for you.
The reason why could be one of these three reasons:
1) You feel the show is too predictable, boring, questionable writing, and it feels like your typical Shounen.
2) You have a major dislike for all the characters, stupidity, weirdness, violence, gore, and are repulsed and disgusted. You also don't like unstructured stories. You don't like unpredictable stories.
3) Both reasons 1 and 2.
If you are in category 1, you should keep watching chainsaw man. It is a show that is perfect for you, because of how unpredictable it will eventually become. It is the opposite of boring, the writing is incredible, and it will not be like any Shounen you have ever seen.
If you are under category 2, this show may not be for you. You simply are not the target audience for this show. There are going to moments in this show that will completely repulse you, and that's not going to stop. However, it does get better.
If you are under category 3, you should give the show a shot. You should try your best to tolerate the characters until episode 8. If the story does not hook you at this point, then you should drop it.
Chainsaw man is not like attack on titan's where the plot is in your face the first episode. Chainsaw man will grow on you, and eventually become better and better. If you want to know why people like chainsaw man, you will have to stick around throughout all 12 episodes. After the 12th episode, assuming seasons 2 and 3 come out, chainsaw man should get even crazier.
Chainsaw man's popularity comes from it's ability to dodge the audiences expectations. There is a lot of anime tropes that are brought up, just for the story to take a turn in a different direction.
Alright, that is my write up for my favorite series. I hope the show gets enough popularity so that MAPPA can kill it for seasons 2 and 3.
