When I watched this movie I didn’t expect it to be good or bad. I had already watched Spirited Away before this and I thought it was bad/mediocre but I thought I’d give this movie a try.

I was pleasantly surprised. It hits the mark where Spirited Away missed it.

Calcifer is hilarious, the castle itself is interesting with its mechanics, Howl himself is an interesting character, and it manages to be emotional and to have a steady plot that makes sense. I was never bored with this movie and it had a healthy balance of calmness and action. The ending was also very enjoyable.

I don’t watch movies or shows just because they look good. I come here for the story, the lore, the characters. Howl’s Moving Castle had all of that.
