Suki da Nante Zettai ni Iwanai is a painful read. It's about childhood friends Mamoru and Kanato (Kana from now on), that upon confessing his love to Mamoru, was received with a very cruel response and proceeded to pretty much disappear from his life.

Despite his childhood friend going away, Mamoru was never able to neither forget nor forgive himself for the things he had said to Kana, so he decides to go find him again when high school starts. And wouldn't you know, upon arriving at his new high school dorms, Mamoru finds out they are roommates.

But even after a touching reunion, things don't go smooth sailing for them. "I'm not in love with you anymore!", those words said by Kana after their first night start plaguing Mamoru's mind. Alongside with the fact his childhood friend used to be a completely different person during junior high, Mamoru can't help but get confused and eager for answers for all the questions and doubts going around his mind.

It's a bittersweet story, full of sweet childhood moments they remember throughout the manga but also full of misunderstandings, where the things left unsaid and unexplained lead to very painful actions and words from both sides.

Not every manga can capture the burden of unsaid words quite as well as this one did, but despite that, there were a lot of things that were never really explained or explored and although they're not crucial for the story in the end, it did feel a bit incomplete without them.
