Mixed Feelings
It's obvious now that there's a much bigger story they're trying to tackle with these short burst of OVA episodes, but with so much time in between and just a few episode released at a time I doubt there's much actual hype being generated. The only thing that probably keeps people coming back is the booba, but even that seemed a lot toned down in this season from some of the previous ones. It's still there, I don't think it'd really be Ikkitousen without it, but it feels mellowed out and dare I say a bit more mature.

The ranking system they introduced earlier in the story arc is still seemingly a big focus, as well as introducing a bunch of new characters and expecting us to care about them. I get that if you're a fan of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms and all the history and lore surrounding it you might care more and might even recognize some of the Japanese renderings of the Chinese names. I'm just not the target audience it seems, and I can only imagine how niche that audience actually is.

When they introduce a new younger girl as Hakufu's younger sister, I was like "have we been here before, it feels like we've been here before." They already did that exact story line, though it might not have been cannon as that season felt like all filler anyway and it turned out she wasn't even who she said she was in the first place. Regardless it seems like they're doing it for real this time, and I guess it's fine it still works as a concept especially when you try to get into the history of it.

Overall nothing too special about this season that stood out to me as being all that different that what's come before, passably entertaining as tiddy animes go. 6/10
