Rent-A-Girlfriend is a guilty pleasure anime. It's like fast food: you know it has no value, but once you start you can't stop until you consume it all.
Don't take anything in this anime too seriously. It's a funny comedy filled with lots of awkward and very cringy situations which make you feel more often than not embarrassed for the characters. Nonetheless, in all this chaos as the story progress you can actually see some growth in the protagonist - from utter degeneracy to barely functional individual.
The plot is very unrealistic (even though you can actually rent a girlfriend in Japan!? and the real prices are actually about the same as in the anime!) though who needs boring realism when you can have entertaining fiction.
Overall it is a good show to binge watch to lift your mood, as long as you take it as an entertaining fiction and not a showcase of realism.
