I did not like this anime. To be frank, I'm not sure why it has such a huge fan base. The artwork was sloppy in my opinion, with the "gore" looking very plain and unrealistic. Even the simple blood was such a bright red that it just looked awful to me. The story is just a bunch of crammed together bits of the most horrible things you can imagine happening to children, including the cliche abandonment and being unloved by everyone as well as rape, dismemberment, murder, torture, and becoming parts of scientific experiments. The characters are rather bland or cliche to me. The best part of this show? The opening song. No joke, I really like Lilium the song but that was pretty much all I liked about the show.
