READ THIS FIRST-
Okay, so the story kinda shoots itself in the foot at chapter 14 and 15. But it gets better from there. Chapters 25 to 35 are actually really interesting and well written. 16 to 24 aren't bad chapters by any means, but the sour taste from chapter 14 and 15 will linger in your mouth. Plus, 25 to 35 are sooooo much better.

Also, the guy above me is stupid. He talks about how the MC is like "Look how powerful I am" yeah, no that doesn't happen. The fact that he's insanely strong gets brushed to the side almost immediately. There are no fights in the first half of the story and is mostly character focused and the MC doesn't really use his powers. The only time he gets serious is to body a bunch of justifiably weak characters at the end. In the second half however, he starts struggling against opponents that have an actual reason to be just as strong as him. So his OPness doesn't affect the story very much at all.

Okay, on to the review.

Yuusha Yamemasu is a solid blend of themes, characters and world building. Plot is basically non existent, however, it's more of a short read anyways so it doesn't really matter. It follows the story of Leo, an insanely powerful super weapon joining the demon king's army. The concept is generic enough, however the story is actually really fresh and enjoyable.

The main characters in Yuusha Yamemasu are mostly Leo, the Titular Demon King and her Four Heavenly Kings. The Four Kings are the main subcast in this story and while nothing amazing, they are all given a few chapters for them to grow and for you to understand their characters enough. They are interesting and unique enough to make you invested in them and for them to not drag down the story and they serve their purpose. The weakest of the four character wise is Dragon General Edward. Edward goes through the most generic of training arcs and even worse, is the last of the four generals to do so making him seem underwhelming compared to the others.

The Demon King herself is nothing special. She's your generic goody good demon king who doesn't see the need for unnecessary killings and has another, more kinder goal than world domination. Her background, goals, relationships and abilities are completely ordinary. Although her design is quite nice, if a bit generic.

The main focus is on the tragic hero, Leo. Leo is a really good character, and one basically worth reading the manga for. He's has the same vibe as Frieren from Frieren at the Funeral, although in my opinion, a lot better as a character. His goals and his past are a lot better than Frieren's to begin with and he's more of an interesting character by default via his personality. While I am on the topic of Frieren, there aren't as many emotional moments, in fact, only one worth mentioning, but it's a really good one that is on par with Frieren's best. It happens near the Climax of the first arc at around 14 chapters.

It is also very good at dealing with themes of Immortality, Self sacrifice and Duty and is very emotional and powerful when doing so. The author has a knack for making strong scenes and lasting emotions and swaying the audience's viewpoint. If you feel like this is for you, then I highly recommend it.

*HEAVY SPOILERS AHEAD*
If you are here, you probably know why this is rated so low. The bullshit chapter 14 and 15 pulled during Leo's death. Once Leo tells his backstory and reveals his goals, he is killed in an epic final confrontation where he goes all supervillain and tries to end the world. It's a fitting and satisfying end that is in character and thematically appropriate for the story and should have been the end, however, his friends persuade him not to die with the power of friendship.
...
Yup. It's just as dumb as it sounds. After his friends break down his resolve and plans he suddenly gets cured of the "Curse". That was a completely crummy chapter and a complete waste of time. The author must have been on crack when they made that.
