“Legend of Lemnear: Kyokuguro no Tsubasa Valkisas” is a one-episode high fantasy OVA that has a typical beginning, an unnecessarily and egregiously explicit middle, a boring final fight, and a predictable ending.

The OVA starts out ordinarily enough — we have a flashback to where the bad guy kidnaps a guy called the “bronze hero,” who is the brother of the “silver hero,” who is the only one powerful enough to defeat the bad guy, the “gold hero.” Years (?) later, the “silver hero,” the titular Lemnear, is traveling from town to town with her trusty flying dragon-horse mount, in search of the bad guy. She eventually finds him, and after lots of explicit “adventures” and all-too-convenient power-ups, she goes on to fight him and the “gold hero” in a flying fortress.

The story does progress from point A to point B, but it takes excessive liberties to get there, with deus ex machinas getting pulled all over the place, characters making dumb decisions, and characters knowing things that they should not be aware of, all in the name of advancing the plot. The whole thing, therefore, feels like a jumbled mess.

The dialogue is standard fare for this kind of show, almost boilerplate. The characters don’t receive much development, and it’s hard to care about any of them. Regarding the art, the character designs look unique, at least, although the villains are all ugly (I assume that’s on purpose, however). The animation is fluid, but there are some parts where voices don’t match lip movements, etc. The rock/heavy metal background music is very ‘80s. The ending theme is an instrumental which is okay, but not particularly good. The voice acting is hit-and-miss, with more misses than hits. I thought the person who voiced Lemnear’s brother, Mesh, wasn’t a good fit for the role.

As for objectionable content, there is a copious amount of explicit nudity, particularly lots of bare breasts. One of the bad guys uses his hypnosis powers to create a harem, basically. Way too much focus is put on this when that time could have been better used to pave over some plot holes. There is also a rather graphic scene of attempted rape.

Overall, this OVA is not something that I would recommend to a general audience, both due to the explicit content and the liberties the plot takes to come to its conclusion. It may have decent character designs and animation, but it’s not an enjoyable watch.
