The adaptation sucks so please give the manga a chance. Only a little ounce of justice was given to the source material because while it is well-written, stunning, and complex, the anime adaptation fails in comparison. The characters were very complicated and deep but in the anime, most of them just come off as unlikeable. My main issue was the pacing though—if you watch the anime without any prior idea from the manga, I'm sure you wouldn't enjoy it because some important scenes and storybuilding are missing. You'd be confused. I still plan to finish the series though (because I love the manga so much I'm willing to support this atrocity).
