Pros:
+ Extremely captivating story. Despite being quite generic, the writing manages to capture my attention, leaving me wanting more. It tends to pull off many generic isekai tropes without coming off as overbearing or annoying (most of the time). Watching Dead End's adventure really makes me wish I could go on an adventure myself
+ Besides MC, I enjoy the side characters of the show. Unlike MC, they genuinely seem to grow as people. I also really enjoy the cast's chemistry.
+ Like last season, the art and animation are nothing but fantastic.
+ Its commentary on prejudice and PTSD, while simple and basic, is nice to see
+ The show has its fair share of genuinely funny moments.
Cons:
- World itself is rather dull, painfully generic
There are no real stakes as MC practically has everything fall onto his lap with Man-God by his side. The power-up he receives ruins certain aspects of the story when characters like Eris work extremely hard to become stronger.
- Pedophilia and sexual harassment. Although it occurs less often when compared to the first season (which I hated and gave a 3/10), it rips me out of the story when MC sexually harasses younger characters (Yes younger, MC was an adult in the previous life), especially in front of characters like Ruijerd who is supposed to have an absolute no evil policy. Also, for the sex scene, while she does consent, MC is still essentially an adult, so still bad. I wish the author could have just aged everyone by like ten years.
I've never felt so torn over an anime. I wish I could love this anime, but its constant portrayal and lack of consequences for pedophilia leave a horrible taste in my mouth. We wonder why no one takes the anime community seriously, with the community being boiled down to pedos and weirdos, but Mushoku Tensei being as highly appraised without criticism amongst the anime community proves outsiders right. It gets even worse with neckbeards trying to justify the pedophilia prevalent in the show.
I will give it a 6/10 for now, though only because I enjoy the story a lot though it is subject to change depending on how I'm feeling (most likely down). It would be an easy 8-9/10 if it weren't for the cons. Why do pedos have to ruin everything?
