Mixed Feelings
tl;dr better than the first season, still distasteful at times 6/10

I return once more to this polarizing anime series from earlier this year and find that my opinion of it has... become more mixed.

I gave the first half a 5 because I thought it was a great story with great art and a good concept, but dove far too hard into ecchi fanservice and NEET wish fulfillment. The main character was unlikable, arrogant, and prone to pout. While MC has changed over the course of both halves, learning important (though brusque and conspicuous) lessons, his core character hasn't changed to become more personable. He just gets better at hiding it.

And I think that's characteristic of this whole half. The quality didn't really improve, it's treatment of topics it wants you to take seriously hasn't improved. It is however hidden in the fast-paced serial plot devices thrown at you to make you feel like real change has happened. And while it's certainly gotten some interesting developments as far as the plot is concerned, and some real nice development for the side characters, Rudy hasn't changed.

I find that problematic. Maybe it changes later, but at the moment NEET Rudy may as well not have been reincarnated at all. I see so much development in the show and in its characters but all of it washes over Rudy, as if saying that the MC doesn't need to change in order to effect change in the world around him.

So yeah, overall the rating is similar to part 1, good art and good voicing and fx just like the first part. If you liked part 1 you'll like this, if you're like me and were ambivalent about the first part that likely won't change. I will say that even if you disliked part 1 you may like this season.

I'll watch the next season.
