To be frank, I do not understand how this anime could have gotten such a high review on MAL. There was basically ZERO character development in the entirety of the 12 episodes I watched. The story centers around a 15-year-old girl that has severe communication impairment and relies on writing in her notebook to communicate with everyone around her. It's not that she is mute. She just refuses to talk because of "anxiety" so she can never seem to utter a whole sentence out of her mouth, even to her own FAMILY for the entire 12 episodes. I was initially understanding and patient for like the first 3 episodes, but to see that she basically never even attempts to grow out of her character made the show a truly slow and dreadful watch. Every single time someone attempts to converse with her, she reacts like a deer in headlights, never knowing how to respond. Does she ever get better by the end of the show? No. I would much rather hear a quiet character like Hinata from Naruto. Hinata is shy AF but at least she manages to speak full sentences and not just utter sounds out of her mouth.

Also, she has a goal of making 100 friends, yet never even attempts to do so herself. She's always relying on the main male protagonist, Tadano, or the gender-fluid Najimi. Honestly, Komi's character is truly disgustingly unhealthy. The worse part is that this show is going to be having a second season! I am definitely not going to be tuning it. Absolutely awful to watch Komi never change.
