Kamisama no Memochou is an action/coming of age story about a young man in high school who is swept up into working for a detective agency headed up by a young girl (Alice) with extraordinary computer skills. She's more Victorique (GOSICK) than Sherlock Holmes, but she has a crew of NEET helpers who do the grunt work and she puts those pieces together with what she can find by either hacking databases or accessing surveillance cameras.

This is not a moe series, nor does it try to be. Yes, Alice is demi-kawaii and demi-tsundere, but as the series continues, she doesn't have that much screen-time. The stories focus on the protagonist, Narumi, and how he manages to help those around him and become stronger in the process.

The series is solid in terms of production values, with good sound, art, and writing. The OP & ED are a bit lack-luster, though that's offset by the fact that the incidental music is really effective at times.

The comedic timing is good and the side-characters are interesting enough that you find yourself wishing that they had more screen time. Not all the cases/resolutions are serious and that gives the show a bit of an uneven feel, but it's not enough to take away from the enjoyment of the more serious arcs.

One of the biggest bonuses for me in this series (so far) has been watching minor characters emerge into significant and important roles. I haven't read the manga and the series hasn't concluded yet, and that will be the real test, whether they can pull all the threads together into an emotionally torturous and yet satisfying ending. If they manage that, I may upgrade my rating. For now, I'm going to wait, watch and see.
