The anime adaptation of Blue Period is by all means, not a bad adaptation. But, it's also not a great one. I read the manga and watch the anime to draw comparison to the two and I must say, they skipped a lot of contents. But, I still enjoyed the anime.
The characters are great, they are very relatable and you grow to like these characters as the episodes go on, I can't find one single character that I dislike in this anime. Yaguchi is one of the best written main character I've ever seen. We can see his struggles and doubts from start to end and you can't help but cheer him in pursuing art. The characters are the bread and butter of this anime because all of them are so well written. The voice actors also helped them become more believable because the voice acting in this anime is great.
The animation is pretty decent, but it's not that great. I don't really mind the animation that much and it's still enjoyable.
I like the opening and ending, it's catchy and it perfectly captures the feel of the anime.
The main problem of this anime is the story. I'm not talking about the story being bad, but certain pacing, scenes and even character screen times are cut in the anime. Those cut scenes help to build up the situation so it can give much more impact and the anime cuts it which is a bit disappointing. Episode 1 has a good pacing for a start but after Episode 2, it all starts to become fast and confusing. They also cut some monologue and the art explanation is not as thorough as in the manga.
Overall, I still enjoyed this anime. It might not be a great adaptation, but it's still a decent watch. I might stick to the manga more after this.
Thanks for reading.
