Preliminary (9/13 eps)
Probably one of the most boring mecha and political dramas I've seen. The fact that it literally has no music doesn't help. It's basically Code Geass crossed with one of the dullest Gundam slice-of-life teenager who also happens to be a mecha pilot shows. It's like the creators were given a directive: Your viewers are all mental ward patients who don't deal well with excitement, sudden changes, or loud noises, so keep that ECG reading as smooth as possible if you can. The characters have literally no personality, no real urgency, zero backstory, no objectives, and just seem to be floating around in limbo. The made-for-kids low budget animation doesn't help. It also gets rather preachy with the whole "hard work and conformity will yield a strong community and self-actualization." The sort of typical Japanese propaganda rampant in a lot of shows these days, complete with a single worthless apple or tomato as a reward, as prevalent as the requisite bikini beach episode in every anime. It's especially jarring when juxtaposed against the usual anti-government pro-resistance themes of these mecha shows.
