From the creator of Voices of a Distant Star and The Place Promised in Our Early Days, Makoto Shinkai brings emotional story about failed dreams and lost loves. He has proven to be one of the best when it comes to speaking about distance.

This movie, composed of three parts, is breathtaking when it comes to art and sound and will leave none standing when it starts to show it's full potential. Who could know a train track could be so beautiful.

As you may know already if you have read it's description, this movie centers around the love that the two main characters share for each other. The main characters are Akari Shinohara and Takaki Tōno. Altough they shared something special between them and that only them could understand it, life took it's course and the distance soon started to erode their seemingly childish relationship.

At this point you watch as both characters part. From this point on their futures lie far away from each other and the present is only a memory of their past. Both characters try to leave their lifes acordingly to their present.

5 Centimeters per Second is all about showing us that no matter what we want to do or where we want to stay, life will take its best and impose a destiny of it's own. This same destiny made both characters change their ways to look at life as you will see in the movie.

The repercussions our past has on our future and how it will affect our way to live or think reside in the core of this movie. Solitude, destiny, failed plans but also a hope in the future no matter what is the price to pay is what you can expect to see in the ways of these very realistic characters.

The story isn't in itself very innovative as you can imagine. But also that is what makes this anime so special and the work of Makoto Shinkai so grand. He picked a normal plot and turned it into something memorable. Along side the great artistic quality this makes 5 Centimeters per Second a great way to spend 66 minutes in pure awe.
