It starts with Owaka a daughter of Merchant fall in love with her childhood friend Matsukichi. They had been very close since their childhood days, eventually they fall in love with each other. Just because Matsukichi promised her to marry her, when they will grow up, Owaka still stays in that hope. But Matsukichi has his own ambition of becoming a fire brigade, but his family is strict about it and don't let him join. So, he plots a plan to get disowned by his family by carving tattoo in his body, which is considered as bad manner and disrespectful at that time. He succeed in his plan and join the brigade, while Owaka's parent arrange her marriage with a complete stranger, which let her to break down. She ended up setting fire in her house in hope of meeting Matsukichi. That little little fire turn into a havoc destroying the whole city. This is enough to presume, love can make someone do nonsense thing, which may lead to own destruction.
