Story: 3
Extended lore for Violet Evergarden! This should be exciting, right? In truth, although the story does hit hard a little bit by the end (no spoilers), this movie doesn't do it as well as any episode of the original series. Even episode 12 is more emotionally gripping (and that one's not great). It's too bad we don't have a continuation of the original story, as I hear the 2020 movie retcons a bit too. Watch at your own risk.

Art: 6
The second half looks just as nice as any Violet Evergarden episode, but without the most dramatic scenes. The first half doesn't feel like like Violet at all. I don't know what happened.

Sound: 5
I can't really remember any music really. In the Japanese version, there's a young child whose voice is kinda annoying. Imagine the little girl from episode 10 of the series times 2.

Charcter: 5
Although the character arcs of the two main non-violet characters are good, the first half of the movie (like I said) is pretty pointless to this arc. The worst character here is Benedict. I wasn't a fan of him in the original series, but I don't like his look in this movie at all. At least he did something here.

Enjoyment: 2

Overall: 4
Underperforms in all categories, at least at Violet Evergarden standards. There is an emotional punch by the end that's rewarding, but don't expect anything like episodes 3, 7, 8, 9, 10, or 11 of the original series.
