On my anniversary of 2019 i received both Zelda mangas of this series by a friend of mine that has an account here. So thank you, Knavi-san! [https://myanimelist.net/profile/Knavi]
I'm not a big video-game fan since i was 14 years old, but Legend of Zelda always was a thing to me. Even if i was not playing games anymore, Zelda always had a kind of appeal of a great fantasy story and Link always has been since one of my favorite archetipe of hero.
I never understood why Zelda never got a tv series, either animated or with real persons, or a movie. I could bet money that this franchise could be a money printing in other areas of entertaiment. Therefore, when i noticed the existence of a Zelda manga i could not be more happy.
So, i read the first volume, which is that i'm reviewing. And is not that great.
Story and Characters
The story is very simple. Link, the young hero, will exit his grandparents house for an adventure. If you're a Zelda fan, you will notice that it's very simillar to the plot of the SNES game, A Link to the Past. But, unlike it's obvious inspiration, there is a excessive childish like tone that hurts. It's not like a intellgent children plot, but more like a very generic and fast made children show.
I personally liked the pace (a short story matched with the manga propose) of story but i didn't get the characters. They look like a bizarre combination of the Hanna-Barbera children's show and a cheap children oriented fantasy novel. Maybe the characters are more like the old Zelda games before Ocarina of Time, but still, they don't have any appeal and it was a shame that a charismatic series like Legend of Zelda couldn't bring any great characters on a manga.
Art
The art is very simple and fair, and fulfill it's objective of a children manga. The author is certainly very talented, but only the first pages, which are colored, i could consider a great deal of artistic delight. The rest is good, but not great.
Overall:
I found a little funny to read, but mostly only... ok. There's nothing really memorable but it's a worth read by children and hardcore Zelda fans.
