I've got to admit, Elfen Lied could possibly be the best anime I've seen yet... I can't decide exactly what it is that got me so interested in the series, but to begin with it was the premise of a little girl slaughtering small crowds of people on a regular basis. After watching a few episodes, at the risk of sounding like a douche bag, my reason had actually shifted to being slightly attached to the characters and what they were going thru, especially the "horned-little girls". I'm still amazed an animated feature actually had me this emotionally involved, but if you ever get the chance to the see even a couple of episodes, I'm almost positive you do the same...
The animation is basic, but clean consistent. No complaints there. Sound and Voice-Acting are both top notch, with some of the voice-acting really spot on and perfect for the scene. Opening credits has a great song that I think is German and is really a piece of work. The Story is tragic, funny, perverted, violent beyond anything I've seen to date, and really touching at times too.
I'd love to say something BAD about it, but I can't stop watching it! Hell I'm reading the Manga right now online and haven't closed that window on my computer in almost a week!
One complaint: It's killing me that we don't find out what happens after the ending.... I know that its meant to be seen differently depending on the person, or at least that's what I took from it, but that doesn't stop me from wanting to see what the author of the manga may have planned our story if it had ever gone any further.....
