Very cliche how the first people he contacts are the noble of the land. I think it would be far more interesting if he gained popularity through his skills and got noticed by the noble than stumbling across him in the woods. Feels like the story jumped the gun, going from a random country bum to living in the noble's mansion. While it's kinda unique seeing a good and fair lord, it's also boring.
The family is not interesting. All they do is praise the 'kid' in every episode. I like the idea they were going with that the protagonist hasn't been loved or praised in years and I got a little teary-eyed at the scene but then I remembered that this was a 40-year old man crying, not a child. Again, the show would be so so much better if it was an actual 8-year-old.
While the sound and art are good, like most, I watch an Anime for the story and characters and only go back to praise the less apparent details if I liked the show. This anime deserves a decent 4. Gonna keep watching it to see where it goes but right now I don't have high hopes. Let's see if they can impress.
