Based on the third and newest group from the Love Live franchise, Nijiyon manages to be a nice complement from the gacha (Love Live! School Idol Festival All Stars) or the anime that's currently airing. Nijiyon being a succession of jokes told in the typical four panel format without a main storyline, having a basic understanding of the member's personality is preferred to fully appreciate it, though Season 3 of the series takes the time to reintroduce them in the beginning so you might as well start here if you're still not really familiar with them.

While there are some of the members of the Nijigasaki School Idol Club that I initially didn't like from my experience with the other mediums, either because they were plain or because I didn't like their basic traits, Nijiyon plays enough with the different situations showcased to put each of them in a certain spotlight and make them equally likable (and that's saying a lot because I truly believe there's a serious gap between Kasumin and someone like Ayumu or Kanata). I'm also satisfied with how it makes them interact as a group and how it doesn't stick to the same pairings all the time but constantly switches them up in intriguing ways.

Nijiyon doesn't look especially great but that's expected for a 4 pannels manga, the chibis are pretty basic and I don't think the use of colors makes it stand out much but it has a great deal of facial expressions to keep being fresh and entertaining, especially given that Miyakohito has a good grasp over the pacing of his jokes.

If you're curious about this new Love Live group, Nijyon is a solid and funny way to learn more about them!

Side notes : there are some differences between the web version and the published version which consists in some chapters being revised as well as some exclusive chapters made for the tankoubon, I haven't bought it though so I can't comment in details about it.

Some of the 4-komas from the creation of the Perfect Dream Project presented character interactions and personalities that could be completely different from the ones that came to be established in the modern version of it but Nijiyon being more recent, it's the first one where the Nijigasaki characters are just as you know them from the game/anime so you won't be in unknown territory while reading it.
